If Secular Music is Bad, What About Movies or Books?

Good Fight’s Response:

If what you are meditating on and being entertained by are the very things that God hates, at what point does it become a sin problem? How many of your favorite TV shows glorify fornication, adultery, drunkenness, homosexuality, etc.? Same goes for music, movies, novels, and the like. If the things you are entertained by are the things that God hates, we believe there may be an underlying problem.

There isn’t a clear-cut answer that we give a person regarding what shows, books, songs, and artists they should listen to as a believer, but we do provide certain scriptures, scriptural principles, and we pray that they will practice wisdom.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. –Philippians 4:8

Is the show/book/song pure, honest, lovely and of good report? Is there virtue in it? Are you willing to praise it? You can always ask yourself, “Would I be comfortable with Jesus sitting next to me as I read/watch/listen to this?” Those are just a few practical questions that we believe are quite beneficial to the believer when they put their entertainment to the test.

But there is an obvious spiritual connotation when it comes to dealing with secular entertainment as well. You see, the Bible is very clear that Satan uses those who are disobedient to the gospel to hinder our walks with Christ. This is why we are commanded not to be unevenly yoked together with non-believers, for we are the temple of God and they are the temple of idols or demons (2 Corinthians 6:14-21). That is not to say that every single non-believer is possessed by a demon, but that they have the ability to be and Ephesians 2:2 tells us that Satan (the prince of the power of the air) works THROUGH the sons of disobedience. If this is true, and we are meditating on the works of non-believers, and those things directly contradict the teachings of Scripture, we don’t think this is done by accident. It is a very unconvincing argument to believe that millions of people are meditating on things contrary to God’s moral law for hours on end and Satan is sitting back thinking, “Man, I wish I would have thought of that!”

For example, it is estimated that companies spend $5 million dollars per 30 second TV ad during the Super Bowl. If those short advertisements did not sway people into buying their product, those companies would go bankrupt very quickly. But the fact is, people buy their products because they are influenced by these short advertisements and companies make millions off of them. How much more will one be influenced when they spend hours (on movies, TV, music), or days (in the case of books), or weeks (CD’s, radio, iPod’s), allowing their heads to be filled with the influential doctrines of the flesh?

Are You on the Road to Heaven? Thu, 27 Apr 2017 23:16:42 +0000 The Bible gives us specific instructions regarding how to get on the “Jesus Road” to ensure that those who want to be saved will be with Him forever.

According to the World Health Organization, over 153,000 people die each and every day. Countless souls are unaware that today their heart may stop and this could be their last day on earth. Millions die each year in an unexpected manner, unready to face eternity. Just before President Teddy Roosevelt charged up Kettle Hill in the Spanish-American War of 1898, Captain William “Buckey” O’Neill, one of Roosevelt’s famous Rough Riders, was casually standing, puffing on a cigarette, and telling jokes to the troops. Roosevelt recounted O’Neill’s sudden and unexpected death:

William Owen "Buckey" O'Neill

William Owen “Buckey” O’Neill

“The most serious loss that I and the regiment could have suffered befell just before we charged. Bucky O’Neill was strolling up and down in front of his men, smoking his cigarette, for he was inveterately addicted to the habit … As O’Neill moved to and fro, his men begged him to lie down, and one of the sergeants said, ‘Captain, a bullet is sure to hit you.’ O’Neill took his cigarette out of his mouth, and blowing out a cloud of smoke laughed and said, ‘Sergeant, the Spanish bullet isn’t made that will kill me.’ … As he turned on his heel a bullet struck him in the mouth and came out at the back of his head; so that even before he fell his wild and gallant soul had gone out into the darkness.” (Theodore Roosevelt, The Rough Riders (New York: Dover Publications, 2006), pp. 72-73)

The most important decision that we will ever make is where we will spend eternity, heaven or hell? The question for you is, “If you die today are you ready to go to heaven?” Everyone is on one of two roads: one leading to heaven and the other to hell. Jesus Christ described hell as a place of eternal punishment characterized by outer darkness, loneliness, despair, fire, and weeping and gnashing of teeth. Jesus described heaven this way:

“And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’ He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new’” (Revelation 21:3-5a)

God’s Word says, “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9).

To get an idea of how wonderfully breathtaking and exhilarating heaven will be, when God transported the apostle John to heaven the beauty was so incredibly striking that John, not once, but twice, fell on his face to worship the angel who was guiding him. On both occasions, John was rebuked and warned to worship God alone. (cf. Revelation 19:10; 22:8-9)

If you are to make it into heaven you need to make sure you are on the right road. Jesus warned:

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it” (Matthew 7:13).

Jesus made it clear that He Himself is the only road to heaven and all other ways lead to eternal death:

“I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full … I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 10:9-10; 14:6).

The Bible gives us specific instructions regarding how to get on the “Jesus Road” to ensure that those who want to be saved will be with Him forever. Sometimes this is called the “Romans Road to Salvation” because the steps along the way are spelled out in the biblical book of Romans. These steps are as follows:

Step Number 1
We must acknowledge that we are sinners in need of a Savior.

Romans 3:10 – “As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one.”

Romans 3:23 – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

Romans 5:12 – “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned.”

God is Holy and righteous. His Word declares that “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5). Even if we break just one of God’s commandments, it’s as though we have broken just one link in a chain that suspends us over hell and is enough to damn us forever. “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it” (James 2:10).

Dear friend, each of us is guilty of breaking many of God’s laws, whether it is His commandments against idolatry, which is putting anything before God, or lying or stealing, etc. We are lawbreakers and must admit our need for forgiveness.

Step Number 2
We need to be aware that our sin separates us from God in a state of eternal death and separation from God.

Romans 6:23 – For the wages of sin is death…”

If you have a job, wages are what we earn and we are paid our owed wages at the end of the week or on our given payday. Death is what we earn because of the evil of our sins. Because God is a good judge He must punish evil. The just and righteous penalty for sin is death and this is why we all die.

Step Number 3
We must recognize God’s provision for our sin problem in sending His Son to pay our sin debt on the cross so we could be saved.

Romans 5:6-8 – “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 6:23 – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Dear reader, are you aware that your Creator is not only all-powerful, but defined in the bible, in His essence, as love? The bible declares twice “God is love” (1 John 4:8, 16). Because God is love, He loves you and does not want you to go to hell (2 Peter 3:9), but wants you to be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). This is why Jesus died in your place on the cross!

Step Number 4
Because God loves us, and does not want us to go to hell, He calls us in His kindness to repentance.

Roman 2:4 – “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?”

Man kneeling and prayingRepentance is a change of heart and mind, which eventually leads to a change in actions. When we repent we turn from the broad road that leads to destruction to follow the narrow road of Jesus, which leads to eternal life. The result of repentance is “fruit in keeping with repentance” (Mathew 3:8) and “deeds in keeping with their repentance” (Acts 26:20). It is important to distinguish the root from the fruit. The root is repentance itself, a change of heart and mind about following Jesus. The fruit is the subsequent result of God’s gracious work in our repentant hearts, which progresses as we grow in the Lord and walk the “Jesus Road” to heaven.

Step Number 5
We must confess Jesus as our Lord and believe the gospel.

Romans 10:9-10 – “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

The term “Lord” simply means master or owner. When we confess Jesus as Lord we acknowledge that we will follow Him as the King of kings and Lord of lords, and as our rightful owner and master. Jesus gave a very solemn warning to His disciples about the vital importance of confessing Him as Lord:

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell … Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).

When we “believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead,” we recognize that it is through faith in Jesus and His glorious Gospel, which is His death for our sins and His glorious resurrection over the grave, that we are saved (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Step Number 6
We are told that whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.

Romans 10:13 – “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Man prayingWhen we come to repentance and faith in Jesus, we confess Him as Lord and call upon the name of the Lord. God answers our cry of faith by applying the precious blood of Jesus to our lives and cleansing us from the sin that would otherwise damn us for eternity in hell.

Step Number 7
We are called in the book of Romans to stay on the narrow road to life and not return the broad road to destruction.

Romans 11:20-22 – “Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either. Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off.”

While Jesus promised that the road to salvation leads to eternal life, He also warned that the road would be rough, because we live in a world that is hostile to God and His followers. It is for this reason that He warned repeatedly that we must remain on the road to life to the very end if we are to inherit final salvation:

“Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Romans 10:21-22).

“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Romans 24:12-13).

Dear reader, we would love to see you in heaven. Jesus paid the most horrible price through His death on the cross. He did this to keep you out of hell and to get you into heaven. It is up to you now to choose to leave the broad road that leads to hell and to get on the road less traveled that leads to the heavenly kingdom.

We encourage you to repent of sin and embrace the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior through faith in Him! If you turn to Jesus Christ and get on the narrow road that leads to life, in time we “will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” (2 Peter 1:11) and hear the blessed words of our Lord:

“Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness” (Matthew 25:23).

If you have turned to Christ, we would like to welcome you into the family of God. We encourage you to develop your relationship with God by seeking Him in prayer, reading His Word, and finding a Christ-centered, bible teaching, uncompromising church. It is important that you find other members of the body of Christ so you can be encouraged in your faith and encourage others. It is also important to develop your relationship with God through your prayer life, which hopefully just began when you called upon the name of the Lord in prayer for salvation. May the Lord richly bless you as you seek Him and live for His glory!

So-Called “Bible Answer Man” Converts to Greek Orthodox Thu, 13 Apr 2017 23:53:12 +0000 Hank Hanegraaf, known on radio as "The Bible Answer Man," was recently confirmed, or "chrismated," into the Greek Orthodox Church, a branch of Eastern Orthodoxy...

The post So-Called “Bible Answer Man” Converts to Greek Orthodox appeared first on Good Fight Ministries.

The following image is a picture of Hank Hanegraaff reportedly being “Chrismated” or confirmed into the Greek Orthodox Church.

Greek Orthodox Priest Thomas Soroka, from St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in McKees Rocks, PA, was excited at the idea of Protestant believers coming to his Facebook page to see Mr. Hanegraaff’s conversion:

“To the numerous Protestant/Evangelical/Non-Denominational Christians that have been sharing my post on the news of Hank Hanegraff’s conversion to the Orthodox Christian faith: Welcome! Greetings in Christ as we approach the feast of our Savior’s glorious Resurrection.”

We have always had doctrinal differences with Mr. Hanegraaff over the years, but at this point it seems that he is in deep need of prayers.

So what is the Greek Orthodox Church all about?

It is a branch of Eastern Orthodoxy, which formally broke with the Western (or Roman Catholic) Church in AD 1054. Even though the Greek Orthodox Church is separate from Catholicism, many of its practices are similar, such as the veneration of saints. The term orthodox means that they believe they hold the correct opinion on true Christianity. The Greek Orthodox Church claims to trace its roots to the apostles and early church fathers, calling itself “the Mother Church of Christendom.” While they do hold to many foundational truths of Christianity, such as the Trinity, they have also added many practices and beliefs at variance with biblical Christianity.

Many Greek Orthodox Churches conduct their Sunday service, called a Divine Liturgy, in Greek, which is a problem for anyone who does not speak Greek. Their structure more resembles Catholicism than Protestantism. Worship services are filled with formality, ritual, and choral music. Within a typical 75-minute service, they will light candles for various reasons, kneel in tandem, kiss icons, and make the “sign of the cross,” although they repeat the gesture backward from the way Roman Catholics do. Observing the Eucharist is central to their service and for continuing their “process” of salvation.

Your Time on Earth is Running Out Wed, 01 Mar 2017 21:34:45 +0000 Most people take their time on earth for granted and live under the illusion that they are promised tomorrow. God’s Word soberly warns us that we are not promised tomorrow. Even the length of our days is like a mere breath or vapor...

The post Your Time on Earth is Running Out appeared first on Good Fight Ministries.

For a number of years the Rolling Stones sang “Time Is On My Side,” but as they creak around the stage, they can no longer sing that song with a straight face. The reality is that time is not on anyone’s side.

Many things are of great value because they are so rare. If you could collect diamonds like sand on a seashore, they would be almost worthless, because they would be so plentiful. Diamonds are of incredible value because they are so rare. The same is true with time. Your time is of great value because your lifespan on earth is relatively short compared to an unending eternity. If you think about it, a month blows by like the wind! The passing of just 120 months means that 10 years of your life has already passed you by!

Our time on earth is truly very short! Our experience of time is also very subjective and seems to speed up with age. When we were children, that final week before Christmas seemed to take an eternity. When we are older, that same week before Christmas seems to speed right by threatening to leave us unready for the festivities.

We cannot cheat time, the death rate is still at 100 percent, and over a whopping 55 million people die each and every year. Like milk, we have an expiration date. Tragically, most people take their time on earth for granted and live under the illusion that they are promised tomorrow. God’s Word soberly warns us that we are not promised tomorrow and that even the length of our days is like a mere breath or vapor that appears for a moment and is gone:

“Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.” (Proverbs 27:1)

“Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14)

In fact, if you examine the width of your hand and measure it against eternity, you will see that it is nothing by way of comparison. This is the exact analogy that God gives to warn us that our lives are very short:

“You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.” (Psalm 39:5)

Sadly, most people only value their time on earth when they are on their deathbeds and their life is next to gone. Millions more die suddenly, unprepared to stand before God; clueless that the days of their lives were numbered. We attend funerals regretting that we failed to take time to tell others we loved them. God’s Word actually tells us that going to a funeral is far better than going to a party, because a funeral provides a vital reality check that forces us to consider if we are prepared to face God and eternity. God’s Word declares:

“Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties. After all, everyone dies—so the living should take this to heart. Sorrow is better than laughter, for sadness has a refining influence on us. A wise person thinks a lot about death, while a fool thinks only about having a good time … Remember Him [God] before the silver cord is broken and the golden bowl is crushed, the pitcher by the well is shattered and the wheel at the cistern is crushed; then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it … That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.” (Ecclesiastes 7:2-4; 12:6, 7, 13-14)

The problem? Most people live for today, giving little thought about eternity and getting right with God until it‘s too late. Most people are involved in a rat race, seeking to accumulate material things that they can’t afford just to impress people they don’t even like, and that they can’t take with them into eternity. Jesus warned, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Mark 8:36)

Jesus illustrated this point in a parable about a rich man who foolishly boasted that he would build barns to contain all his wealth with no thought of God and his future beyond the grave:

“And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:19-21)

No one has to die a fool. We can learn to take our time seriously and make wise decisions based on facing the reality that our days are short and by gaining an eternal perspective before it is too late:

“So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)

God states in his Word that the fool gives no thought to his future, but the wisest people in the world consider their end and make decisions based upon insuring a bright, eternal future beyond the grave. The Psalmist said:

“Show me, LORD, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.” (Psalm 39:4)

Since our lives are almost over and eternity is forever, where we spend eternity is the most important question we will ever face. But remember, we only have a short time to render a decision. All of us are accountable to our Creator and there are no second chances after we die:

“And just as people are appointed to die once, and then to face judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)

“So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:12)

God’s Word warns, “Prepare to meet your God” (Amos 4:12). Dear reader, are you prepared to stand before God in judgment? Are you right with God? Have your sins truly been forgiven? Our guilty consciences should bare witness to God’s Word regarding the fact that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 6:23). God defines sin as transgression of His moral law, “Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; indeed, sin is lawlessness” (1 John 3:4). Everyone, including you and me, has committed serious soul-damming crimes against God by breaking His moral law.

Have you ever told a lie, hated someone in your heart, or taken something that belongs to someone else, no matter how small? These are called transgressions against God’s moral law, making us lying, thieving murderers at heart! Have you ever put anyone or anything before God? This would make you an idolater and God’s Word states that all idolaters go to the lake of fire (Revelation 21:7-8).

We will never be able to get to heaven based on our own good works. Why? Because our crimes against God and others bar heaven’s gates and God’s Word declares, “There is no one righteous, not even one” (Romans 3:10). One of the tragedies of sin is that sin causes spiritual death by separating us from God and His spiritual life:

“The soul who sins shall die.” (Ezekiel 18:20)

“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2)

Not being ready to meet God entails horrific, eternal and irreversible consequences. We end up going into a Christless eternity, separated from God in eternal judgment:

“And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth … Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels’ … these will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.” (Matthew 25:30,41; 2 Thessalonians 1:9)

Thankfully, because God made us and loves us, He is willing to forgive us and does not want you to perish for eternity in the flames of hell:

“Do I have any pleasure in the death of the wicked,” declares the Lord GOD, “rather than that he should turn from his ways and live?” (Ezekiel 18:23)

“[God] desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:4)

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9)

The Good News is that even though God hates sin and rebellion, He loves you so much that in His great love, He gave His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to pay the huge fine of your sin debt on the cross:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17)

“You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:6-8)

Before leaving earth, the first thing you need to do to prepare for eternity and meet God is to humbly admit that you are a sinner in need of forgiveness and salvation. God declares that the one who claims to be without sin is self-deluded and makes God a liar, compounding his problem forever:

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us … If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts.” (1 John 1:8, 10)

After acknowledging that we have a sin problem we must then embrace God’s sole provision for our forgiveness in the free gift He has given in His Son. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus is the only way to be saved because He alone had the infinite value as the God-man to pay for the sins of the whole world (Hebrews 3:1-3).

Jesus not only died for our sins on the cross, but He rose from the dead on the third day, conquering the grave and death. While Jesus died for the world, His blood is only efficacious for those who repent and place their trust in Him. This is why God calls everyone to repent before they die, including you:

“In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead.” (Acts 17:30-31)

To repent means to have a change of mind and a new attitude in your heart toward your sin and toward God, which leads to a change of actions. It means we turn from the broad road that Jesus said leads to destruction and we embrace the narrow road that leads to life (Matthew 7:13-14). To receive the free gift of life in Christ, we must place our faith in Him as our Savior and confess Him as Lord of our lives:

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

The term “Lord” means master and owner. Jesus, as our Creator and Savior, is the rightful owner of our eternal souls. If you have not yet turned to Jesus Christ for salvation, the bible says, “Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:1-2). Simply surrender your heart and life to God and receive the free gift of eternal life today and become part of the family of God. Jesus said that the angels of God rejoice when just one sinner comes to repentance (Luke 15:7)!

Dear reader, do not make the worst mistake of your life by putting off today that which you may not be able to do tomorrow, because tomorrow for you may never come. Choose life by choosing Christ today, as the odds of playing with time are too great, life is too short, the stakes are too high, and eternity without Christ is far too long!

The Dumbing Down and Demonic Infiltration of a Nation Caused by Increased Marijuana Use

In the last election cycle, the U.S. did not only get a new president, but three more states legalized the recreational use of the drug marijuana. Of the five states where marijuana’s recreational usage was on the ballot, California, Massachusetts and Nevada made smoking cannabis legal.

Incredibly, marijuana is not only the No. 1 illicit drug in America (according to a 2014 National Survey on Drug Use), but the number of pot smokers in the U.S. has nearly doubled in just three years according to a Gallup poll released in August 2016.

If you are a pot smoker, I would simply ask you to say a little prayer before you read the rest of this article, and that you would seek God’s truth and will for your life. The moment I became a Christian in 1981, I was immediately delivered from smoking pot, getting drunk and using other illicit drugs. My studies since that time have only confirmed and deepened my resolve to stay clear of them and to warn others of their harmful and even diabolical effects.

Despite pro pot propaganda, and much of the public’s desire to be inebriated on the drug, it is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug under federal law, which is a designation earmarked for substances with “high rates of abuse and no acceptable medical use.” (Source)

In an NPR article appearing August 10, 2016, we read under the heading, “DEA Rejects Attempt To Loosen Federal Restrictions On Marijuana”:

“The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration recently refused to downgrade marijuana from its federal status as a Schedule I controlled substance. Chuck Rosenberg, acting DEA administrator, stated, ‘This decision is based on whether marijuana, as determined by the FDA, is a safe and effective medicine. And it’s not.’” (Source)

Along with the U.S. DEA, the American Medical Association also fended off challenges to “neutralize” their position on marijuana and issued a Policy Statement on marijuana, which reads in part:

“Our AMA believes that (1) cannabis is a dangerous drug and as such is a public health concern; (2) sale and possession of cannabis should not be legalized.” (Source)

Dr. Stuart Gitlow, Chair-Elect of the AMA Council on Science and Health, issued a strong warning:

“The AMA today reiterated the widely held scientific view that marijuana is dangerous and should not be legalized. We can only hope that the public will listen to science – not ‘Big Marijuana’ interests who stand to gain millions of dollars from increased addiction rates.” (Ibid.)

Despite the hard scientific facts regarding the danger of recreational marijuana, much of the increased usage is owing to propaganda spread by the entertainment industry, popular artists and mass drug pushers who don’t readily share with the masses the drug’s destructive effects on the brain, the family and society.

Former U.S. Drug Czar, William J. Bennett, and federal prosecutor, Robert A. White, outlined much of the scientific evidence showing marijuana to be incredibly harmful in their book, Going to Pot: Why the Rush to Legalize Marijuana Is Harming America.

Bennett and White bemoaned the fact that there is a propaganda war promoted by illicit drug lobbyists seeking to legitimize pot that capitalizes on the ignorance of the nation in regard to its harmful effects:

“Almost all evidence is on our side, the side of science and fact,” said Bennett, former director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy under President George H.W. Bush. “The legalization advocates are winning the debate,” added White, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey. “They are organized and well-funded. And they are winning because the public is not informed of the harms of marijuana.” (Source)

What California And Other States Can Look Forward To

Dr. Ruben Baler, a neuroscientist with the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), warned:

“Unfortunately, if marijuana does become legal we will have the data to make the comparison in terms of harm on driving, psychosis and relationship to mental illness.” (Source)

Sadly, those days are now here. Both Colorado and Washington provide models for California and other states that have more recently legalized marijuana as to what they can look forward to.

teenagers smoking marijuana jointWe now know that the legalization of recreational marijuana promotes the drug’s usage among the very young, where it causes the greatest harm. After recreational pot was legalized in Colorado, their youth’s past-month pot usage 2013/2014 “was 74 percent higher than the national average.” According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health:

“Coloradoans of all age groups (12-17, 18-25, 26 and older) rank first in the nation for past-month marijuana use. Before legalization they ranked fourth, third and seventh, respectively.” (Source)

One out of every three Denver high school juniors and seniors surveyed identified as marijuana users; demonstrating a sharp increase of 20 percent from 2013 to 2015. (Source)

Former assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Robert A. White, speaking at a Heritage Foundation event in 2015 along with William J. Bennett, pointed out:

“9.4 percent of children have used marijuana in states that have legalized medical marijuana, whereas the average in non-medical marijuana states is at 6.7 percent.”

William J. Bennett later added:

“We know we have a problem, and we have not managed to keep those things from kids. Colorado was supposed to eliminate the marijuana black market, but it did not.” (Source)

Candi CdeBaca, an education and community activist who lives next to a commercial marijuana growing operation in Elyria-Swansea, CO., told Politico Magazine:

“One of the things that we thought was going to happen when [recreational] marijuana was legalized was that drugs would be taken out of our community. What happened was that the drugs stayed—and the drug dealers changed.” (Source)

Marijuana’s Effect On Deadly Driving

After marijuana became legal in California, one of my concerns was the synergistic effect that mixing marijuana with alcohol would have on drivers. Though simulated studies confirm that driving while intoxicated while under the influence of marijuana compromises every skill that is needed for driving, drunk drinking is still worse than driving while stoned on pot.

However, this is not the end of the story! Several studies have also concluded that driving while intoxicated with both pot and alcohol is far worse than driving drunk. Since millions of people party with both alcohol and marijuana, the synergistic effect of these two drugs will prove to be a dangerous devil’s brew for drivers.

Marijuana-related car accidentAfter marijuana became legal in my home state of California, I was able to ask Simi Valley Chief of Police, David Livingstone, how this would affect driving while intoxicated in the community. The picture he drew was sad and grim. He stated that “polydrugs” (the admixture of drugs) would pose a serious problem. He pointed out that one can be high on pot and under the legal limit with regard to alcohol intoxication, but be a danger on the road. However, law enforcements’ hands would be tied. This of course would be owing to the fact that law enforcement does not have a legal standard for the amount of THC that can be in a driver’s system.

Add to this the sad reality that Colorado Hospital Association reported “marijuana-related emergency room visits increased from 8,197 in 2011 to 18,255 in 2014” and “the percentage of Colorado vehicle operators who were found positive for marijuana increased from 7.88 percent in 2006 to 24.03 percent in 2014.” (Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), 2006-2013; CDOT, 2014)

These statistics represent real flesh and blood people whose lives are affected by the legalization of recreational marijuana. A Kaiser study revealed that regular marijuana use results in a 30 percent higher risk of injuries! Colorado marijuana-related traffic deaths almost tripled from 2006 to 2014. (Source)

After recreational marijuana was legalized in Washington, the number of drivers with active THC in their blood between 2010 and 2014, who were involved in fatal driving accidents, increased by more than 122 percent (Source: Washington State Traffic Safety Commission). A study of 1,023 emergency room trauma patients in Baltimore discovered that over 34 percent were under the influence of marijuana when involved in an accident. Marijuana, A Gateway To Harder And More Destructive Drugs

Marijuana is also known as a gateway drug to harder and more destructive drugs among many young people. My friends and I all started with marijuana and it took little time before almost all of us opened the door to drugs like speed and LSD. Nearly everyone you ask, almost without exception, who shoots heroine or uses methamphetamine (aka “Meth”), etc., will tell you they started on marijuana. Tragically, countless children have died from overdoses who started their downward slide on marijuana because they were deceived into believing their drug addiction would stop there!

Dr. Cardwell C. Nuckols, who has devoted his entire life to studying drugs and is a Clinical Consultant to American Addiction Centers, states that studies reveal:

“Exposing adolescent rats to THC (the active ingredient in marijuana) can lead to molecular and behavioral alterations in the next generation of offspring, even though progeny were not directly exposed to the drug. Male offspring showed stronger motivation to self-administer heroin during their adulthood. Damage in the glutamate pathway, which regulates synaptic plasticity, has been linked to disturbances in goal-directed behavior and habit formation.” (Citing study by Henrietta Szutorisz, PhD, et al., Neurophychopharmacology, January 2014; Source)

However, we don’t need to look at rats to note this effect all around us. Tragically, states which have legalized marijuana have seen an increase in illicit drug use. Washington ranked sixth and Colorado ranked second in the nation for illicit drug use other than marijuana after legalization! (Source)

The Dumbing Down Of America

The stereotype of pot potentially causing serious brain damage, like the popular pot heads Cheech & Chong appeared to exhibit, is a sad reality that would-be pot smokers should heed. One of the most alarming reasons that young people should be taught to run (and not walk) to the nearest exit when offered marijuana by their peers is because marijuana causes brain damage. Studies have shown that pot use leads to permanent lowering of one’s IQ and cognitive abilities.

An in-depth, 30-year study revealed, “Persistent cannabis users show neuropsychological decline from childhood to midlife.” (Source)

The study found that frequent marijuana smokers more often suffer serious deficits in memory, concentration, and the ability to adjust to problems, as well as deficits in overall IQ.

Part of the tragedy of this study’s findings is that intelligence deficits set on by marijuana appear irreversible! The most dramatic effect on IQ is on those who used marijuana heavily before the age of 18, when the brain undergoes the greatest development.

The study is significant because the findings are immune to the argument of “which came first, the chicken or the egg?” It was a longitudinal study, where subjects were studied from birth to age 38, so no one can make the argument that the IQ of pot smokers in the group were lower because people with lower IQ’s smoke pot.

Thus, the study was able to document the lowering IQ ratios of subjects in relation to their habitual marijuana use over a course of decades. Dr. Nuckols stated:

“If you start smoking at 11 or 12, and smoke pretty continuously through adolescence, the data shows about an 8 point drop in your IQ … if you’ve got a normal IQ of 100, that’s devastating. You’ve lost a lot of firepower, and you may not be able to get it back.” (Source)

Marijuana reduces IQThe study found that profound brain damage causing the lowering of one’s IQ had a permanent effect on those who stopped using marijuana later in life and did not see gains in their IQ. Our brains develop until we reach the age of about 25-years-old and marijuana causes brain damage to the very pathways that would otherwise develop and assist us in thinking.

Another study revealed that continuous use of marijuana from one’s youth rendered habitual users incapable of processing and applying information on the fly. The study revealed that when games were played and the rules were changed midway through, the marijuana smokers were unable to pick up and follow the new rules.

We should also consider the effect that dropping 8 percentage points in one’s IQ can have on your life. Travis Bradberry points out:

“An 8 point reduction in IQ is enough to have a significant, negative impact upon your life. To put it into context, consider that individuals with an IQ of 110 have an average net worth of $71,000 and individuals with an IQ of 120 have an average net worth of $128,000. It looks like smoking pot can lower your tax bracket.” (Source)

Dr. Nuckols said that heavy marijuana use can hinder the development of the brain’s prefrontal cortex — which is the part of the brain that administrates complex cognitive behavior, decision making and social behavior.

“Without a well-developed prefrontal cortex, it’s going to be very difficult for you to hold a job or a family.” (Source)

Former Assistant U.S. Attorney, Robert White, further cautioned:

“In addition to a lowered IQ, those with a family history of mental disorders are two to five times more likely to develop mental disorders.” (Source)

If you are under the impression that you have to be a chronic marijuana user to end up with brain damage, and therefor can use marijuana just a couple of times a week and emerge mentally unscathed, you are sadly mistaken.

A study published in The Journal of Neuroscience revealed that even casual pot smokers displayed substantial abnormalities in vital brain regions pertaining to both motivation and emotion. Thus, pot does not only effect your IQ, but your EQ (emotional intelligence). The study found that those who smoked marijuana only once a week showed significant brain abnormalities.

Hans Breiter, M.D., who is a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, co-authored this study and stated:

“Some of these people only used marijuana to get high once or twice a week. People think a little recreational use shouldn’t cause a problem, if someone is doing OK with work or school. Our data directly says this is not the case.” (Source)

Church Of The Poisoned Mind

One of the more devastating developments with marijuana usage today is the ever-increasing degree of toxicity on the brain. This is owing to both new and more affective delivery systems of pot into the bloodstream like “vaping” and “dabbing,” as well as the increased concentration and dangerous potency of THC (tetrahydrocannabinols) in today’s marijuana!

Today, many smoke marijuana through a vaporizer (vape) pen, insuring greater THC intake, whereas “dabbing” involves heating THC over an open flame until it turns to smoke.

Before coming to Christ, when I was still a young teenager, we often smoked ”home grown,” “bunk weed” and “commercial,” which contained low contents of the active psychotropic ingredient of THC. We would try to get “Columbian Gold” and “Sinsemilla” because they contained higher levels of THC than other marijuana.

However, we especially looked forward to getting our hands on hashish (stalked resin glands, etc., of the cannabis plant) because of its incredibly high THC content. However, while hashish is found with wide ranges of THC (from nearly zero to 65%), the modern marijuana of today often has a higher THC percentage than much hashish.

Federal prosecutor, Robert White, blamed misinformation as the reason that marijuana use is growing and warned, “[THC] Tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive drug in marijuana, has risen from 5 percent to an average of 13 percent as a part of marijuana. In some medical dispensaries in Colorado, it now makes upwards of 30 percent of the drug.” Former U.S. Drug Czar William Bennett warned, “This isn’t your grandfather’s pot.” (Source)

Dr. C.C. Nuckols stated that THC content can even be as high as 90 percent in some marijuana today and that the increase of THC toxicity comes at a relative increase in brain damage for pot smokers. Dr. Nuckols stated:

“The marijuana we have today is so much more potent, we’re seeing a new range of psychiatric problems and psychotic episodes. It’s really a new game.” (Source)

The Oxford Treatment Center goes on to state, “At double-digit percentages, the standard THC content in marijuana today many times what it was in the 1960s.” (Ibid.)

Nuckols continued, “Add to this the long and getting longer list of synthetic cannabinoids, and it is no wonder crisis centers are seeing so many problems such as psychosis, mania and extreme anxiety.” (Ibid.)

But Isn’t Marijuana Good For Anxiety And Other Ailments?

Medical MarijuanaOne of the ironic problems with “medical marijuana” is that it often exasperates and tracks the very condition it was supposed to alleviate. One study revealed that high doses of cannabis actually increases pain. Marijuana compromises the immune system and, like cigarettes, causes lung cancer (more on this later). Marijuana not only damages your DNA, but also quadruples the risk of a heart attack in an hour after smoking. Those who smoke marijuana while having chemotherapy have a host of other safer drugs available to them. Actually, there are several medical researchers who do not see any medical benefits from smoking marijuana in the overall context of the bigger picture – that accounts for both side effects and the fact that there are better drugs available that are more effective, with less notable side effects.

In a talk given by former Simi Valley Police Chief, Mitch McCann, at Simi Valley Hospital/Adventist Health, he stated that the hospital we were meeting at provides pills for those who are truly seeking medicinal properties associated with cannabis, yet without the harmful affects of marijuana inebriation.

After stating that those who want to legitimately use marijuana for medical reasons could do so without getting stoned, he made the salient point that he believes about 99 percent of those who smoke “medical marijuana” do so as an excuse “to get high.” While the number may not be that high, most people are aware that most of the medical marijuana phenomena has been way overblown and has been a way for druggies to legally get their drugs.

There are several drugs which effectively eliminate enough THC, the psychoactive ingredient which produces the harmful “high” in patients. In fact, the non-psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana is known as CBD.

Medical researchers are now claiming that the non-psychoactive CBD cannabinoid in marijuana is the real hero in marijuana, stating that it can potentially be helpful with “epilepsy, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, antibiotic-resistant infections, alcoholism, PSTD, cancer, and neurological disorders, without causing one to be ‘stoned’.” We still await to see the veracity of these claims, but the reality is CBD has made huge gains on THC, yet without the nefarious side effects.

It can be argued that THC has been effective as an antiemetic in dealing with nausea from chemotherapy or intraocular pressure associated with glaucoma. However, studies have shown that one who takes THC for glaucoma must be “high” 24/7 to derive relief from the drug. Other studies have shown that up to 81 percent of those who took TCH for nausea reported negative side effects. (Source: Sallan SE, et al, “Antiemetics in patients receiving chemotherapy for cancer: a randomized comparison of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol and prochlorperazine.” N. Engl. J. Med., January 17, 1980, 302(3):135-138. National Center for Biotechnology Information: PubMed)

Thankfully we have far more effective antiemetic drugs that utilize Serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonists that do not come with the psychioactive effects of THC, and no one dealing with nausea or glaucoma needs to resort to marjauna for relief! For those who insist on THC, the active ingredient in marijuana that causes one to get “stoned,” but sincerely desires it for the medicinal purposes, there are now a number of drugs available. One need not smoke marijuana if one wants what are claimed to be medical benefits of THC, as new drugs regulate TCH delivery in such a way that they preclude hallucinations, lethargy, mental slowdowns and distortions, which are staples of marijuana inebriation.

Add to this the reality that marijuana is categorized as a narcotic and designated as addictive. It is also toxic to your cells, including blood, sperm, lung and brain cells. It can cause serious long-term damage to one’s immune system and has been linked to autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis, as well as chronic inflammatory diseases like bowel disease (Myla Moretti, et al., 2014). There is a 2.0 increase in the risk of psychotic disorders and users are up to six times more likely to develop schizophrenia and significantly increase mania symptoms if previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder (Source: Gibbs M, et al., “Cannabis use and mania symptoms: a systematic review and meta-analysis,” J. Effect Disord., January 15, 2015, 171:39-47. National Center for Biotechnology Information: PubMed).

No one can study human DNA and escape the biblical truth that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). We need to remember that we belong to God through creation and redemption. We are the temple of the Holy Spirit and our bodies belong to the one who made us and redeemed us through the gospel:

“Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” –1 Corinthians 6:18-20

“Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.” –1 Corinthians 3:16-17

What About Medical Marijuana And Anxiety?

Ironically, the same studies that have shown that marijuana can diminish anxiety have shown that continued use of the drug, paradoxically, increases anxiety. Studies have also shown an actual increase in anxiety even after initial relief, causing depression and paranoia.

In a 2014 study authored by Vanderbilt University professor of Psychiatry and of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, Sachin Patel, M.D., Ph.D., found that rather than reducing anxiety, chronic use of the drug “down-regulates” cannabinoid receptors and actually increases anxiety! The study, which was published in the medical journal Neuron found:

“While marijuana’s ‘exogenous’ cannabinoids also can reduce anxiety, chronic use of the drug down-regulates the receptors, paradoxically increasing anxiety. This can trigger “a vicious cycle” of increasing marijuana use that in some cases leads to addiction.” (Source)

The Lord God has revealed in His word that the proper way to deal with anxiety is to place our trust in Him and rest in the peace that He alone can give. Jesus, as our Creator and Redeemer, declared that He gives genuine peace that the world could never give us:

“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” –John 14:27

God’s Word reveals that we are to deal with our worries and anxieties by bringing them to God in prayer and that He will give us a peace that surpasses human comprehension:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 4:6-7

Jesus commanded us:

“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” –Matthew 6:34

The Scriptures reveal that if we keep our minds focused on the Lord, He will give us perfect peace:

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” -Isaiah 26:3

The Scriptures reveal that if we have fears and are downcast, the Lord is our deliverer:

“I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.” –Psalm 34:4

“Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” –Psalm 42:5

Sadly, millions seek peace in places, persons and substances where they will never find it. They forfeit the peace they could have if they simply and sincerely seek the Lord. The author of “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” said it well:

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

I find it very instructive that one of the passages that encourages us to give our anxieties to the Lord also warns that we need to remain sober minded, lest we open the door to the devil.

The following command to give our anxieties to the Lord precludes the usage of marijuana, which causes inebriation, because it commands us to be sober minded. Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the apostle Peter wrote:

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.” –1 Peter 5:6-10

God’s Command To Be Sober And Marijuana

If we claim to be Christians we need to acknowledge that smoking marijuana not only causes disobedience to God’s warnings against poisoning the mind and body, but causes disobedience to God’s clear and repeated commands to be sober minded. The New Testament Greek words translated “sober” (“nepho” and “sophreno”) refer to being in one’s right mind, sober and unaffected by alcohol or other mind-altering inebriates.

The apostle Paul uses the Greek verb “nepho,” (sober) twice in contrast to drunkenness in 1 Thessalonians 5:6, 8. Nepho is a compound of two Greek words: “ne” meaning “no” and “pino”, which means “drink”. The Greek word literally means, “drink no wine” and the word applies to being sober minded or not intoxicated.

Biblical scholars, however, recognize that the New Testament range of meaning of “nepho” goes beyond prohibitions against drunkenness, but means to be in one’s right mind and not to be under the influence of any intoxicating influence, which of course would apply to drugs like marijuana.

In the Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, we read of the Greek verb nepho:

“The concept which underlies the verb nepho ‘to be sober’ and the whole word group is formally negative. It is the opposite of intoxication, both 1. in the literal sense of intoxication with wine, and 2. in the figurative sense of
states of intoxication attributable to other causes.”

Marijuana is not only listed as a dangerous Schedule 1 narcotic by the Federal government, but is also considered a hallucinogen that distorts one’s mental perception of reality, significantly undermining sobriety! Most marijuana users readily admit that they encounter several alien thoughts; they are frequently unable to concentrate and often have panic attacks induced by paranoia while on the drug.

While we will examine marijuana under “pharmakeia” (sorcery) in Part 2 of this series (Galatians 5:19-12; Revelation 9:20-21; 18:23; 21:8; 22:14-15), I would like to point out that marijuana is an effective tool in Satan’s arsenal to wage chemical warfare against humanity. We are called to be sober minded in the context of resisting Satan, who prowls about as a roaring lion seeking someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8-10), because those who are compromised through an altered state of consciousness are easy targets for demonic oppression and even possession. There are countless testimonies that I have read of such phenomena by pot users who now live in spiritual despair.

Christian biblical sobriety has everything to do with not being under any intoxicant or influence that hinders clear thinking and right-mindedness.

Even leading marijuana enthusiasts recognize that marijuana usage destroys sobriety while one is under its influence. The pro pot group known as NORML dedicates a portion of their website to Principles of Responsible Cannabis Use, which underscore principles that were “Adopted by the NORML Board of Directors.” (Source)

Note that their second point relates to not smoking pot and driving because of their knowledge that marijuana affects driving and destroys sobriety:

“II. No Driving: The responsible cannabis consumer does not operate a motor vehicle or other dangerous machinery while impaired by cannabis…. responsible cannabis consumers never operate motor vehicles in an impaired condition. Public safety demands not only that impaired drivers be taken off the road, but that objective measures of impairment be developed and used, rather than chemical testing.” (Ibid.)

“But Marijuana is Natural”

Ironically, the most popular argument justifying marijuana usage among cannabis enthusiasts is also the weakest. Despite all the evidence that marijuana is very destructive to the body and brain, many claim that smoking marijuana must be good because it is a plant and therefore natural.

The truth is that just because something is natural does not mean it is healthy to eat, smoke or even touch. The golden poisonous frog (aka “the terrible”) is perfectly natural, but just one of these frogs happens to pack enough toxins to kill 13 adult humans, and “just touching this beautiful frog can be deadly” (Source)

Lead is natural but it’s not to be ingested. Lead poisoning in Flint, Michigan became a prominent story in 2016 after Donna Brazile, who was working for both CNN and the Democratic Party simultaneously, unfairly gave Hillary Clinton a heads up that she would be asked about lead poisoning in her upcoming debate with Donald Trump. Lead is natural, as we get it in ins rawest form straight from the ground, yet it is a natural killer! Nobody in their right mind would argue that it is good to eat brownies laced with lead because lead is natural.

Poisonous PlantsPlants are also natural, but smoking plants and even eating or touching many of them can be disastrous to one’s health. Let’s take a brief look at a few natural plants that are absolutely deadly when ingested:

Hemlock is perfectly natural, but was used in Greece as a method of execution and used to kill the philosopher Socrates.

The Castor Oil Plant (Ricinus communis) holds the Guinness Book of World Records for world’s most poisonous plant.

Just rubbing up against the plant known as the Little Apple of Death (Hippomane mancinella) is enough to cause great harm and has claimed countless lives from ingestion.

The Suicide Tree (Cerbera odollam) is a natural born killer. According to a team of French forensic toxicologists it is at the top of the list of plants used to commit murder. Between 1989 and 1999 there were 500 cases of fatal Cerbera poisoning in Kerala India alone.

The Devil’s Helmet (Aconitum) is so toxic it was rubbed on the tips of spears and arrows to assure the death of those who were pierced.

Just a single leaf of the deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna), which is totally natural, is enough to end your life.

A mere touch of the Hogwood Plant can cause permanent blindness if some of its sap gets into your eyes and is deadly if ingested! (Story)

Just one seed from the Rosary Pea (Abrus precatorius) is fatal when swallowed! Its beans are said to contain a poison nearly 100 times more deadly than ricin!

White Snakeroot (Ageratina altissima) produces “milk sickness,” and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people in the 19th century alone, including the death of Nancy Hanks Lincoln, Abraham Lincoln’s mother!

God obviously did not intend that we eat or abuse these plants and suffer harm! No one in their right mind would claim that they should be used for food. Moreover, smoking pot is actually unnatural and ruins one’s capacity to enjoy God’s natural creation and order. Ironically, studies have shown that pot smokers have a harder time enjoying the natural wonders of creation and pleasure. Studies have shown that the natural pleasures of food, sex., etc., are in time diminished with chronic pot smokers, which is true of drug abuse in general.

Marijuana, like many other plants, is destructive to one’s health. A Mayo Clinic study revealed that marijuana smoke causes lung and respiratory tract cancer because it contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke.

Researchers estimated that a whopping 30,000 pot smokers die annually from lung cancer in the UK alone. The British Lung Foundation says smoking only three joints does the same damage to the lungs as a pack of 20 cigarettes.

Professor John Henry, a leading British authority on marijuana stated, “Cannabis is as dangerous as cigarette smoking” and “Even if the number of deaths turned out to be only a fraction of the 30,000 we believe possible, cannabis smoking would still be described as a major health hazard. If we add in the likely mental health burden to that of medical illnesses and premature death, the potential effects of cannabis cannot be ignored.” (Source)

Dr. William Oldfield from St Mary’s Hospital, said: “Cannabis and nicotine cigarettes have a different mode of inhalation. The puff taken by cannabis smokers is two-thirds larger, they inhale a third more and hold down the smoke four times longer. All these factors could contribute to illnesses of the heart and respiratory system, particularly as the chemicals in cannabis smoke are retained in the body to a much higher degree.” (Source)

Twisting Scripture to Justify Smoking Pot

One of the saddest things regarding the marijuana epidemic is to see God’s Word being twisted to justify getting “stoned”.

Some go so far as to claim that drug dealers, or those using marijuana who are prosecuted, are in fact suffering for Jesus and righteousness sake. One Internet article actually states:

“For those people harassed and imprisoned for using cannabis rightfully, Jesus offers these words of comfort, “Blessed are those persecuted for righteousness’s sake: For theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Source)

There are also so-called “Rastafari Bible verses” used to justify pot smoking. Here are many used by Rastafari’s and others:

  • Genesis 1:11: “And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth; and it was so.”
  • Genesis 1:29: “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb-bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you ot shall be for meat.”
  • Genesis 3:18 “…thou shalt eat the herb of the field.”
  • Psalms 104:14 “He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man.”
  • Proverbs 15:17 “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.”

While not one of the above verses contextually refers or even applies to smoking marijuana, this has not stopped thousands from twisting them to justify smoking the harmful drug.

The most popular verse used is Genesis 1:29, because it specifically states that God gave us plants. First of all, it should be noted that most of those who seek to use Genesis 1:29 use the King James version of the bible because they think the KJV’s use of the word “herbs” lends itself as a special reference to marijuana.

However, the truth is that Genesis 1:29 is referring to plants as food not marijuana for smoking. The Scripture states:

“Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you… (Genesis 1:29, emphasis added)

Thus God provided plants and herbs for eating, not for smoking.

We have already noted that there are thousands of poisonous plants, many of which will kill or harm you if you ingest them or try to smoke them; so to try to justify ingesting something that is harmful by claiming it is natural or scriptural is sheer folly.

It also needs to be pointed out that when God created certain plants for food, it was before the fall of humanity into sin and rebellion against their Creator and the consequent perversion of nature.

It is true that when God created the earth, everything was good (Genesis 1:31), however after the fall, many plants became harmful.

Before the fall, humanity could partake of the “fruit” (not smoke) from every tree in God’s garden with the exception of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17). However, after the fall of humanity, nature was cursed and thorns and thistles came up and many plants became dangerous:

To Adam He said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field.” (Genesis 3:17-18)

To use Genesis 1:29 as justification for “getting stoned” when it has nothing to do smoking pot is to ignore both the immediate and broader context of the verse, especially when we see that creation has been cursed from its state of perfection.

In its present condition, creation groans in a state of entropy, as made evident through the second law of thermodynamics, awaiting its deliverance from its cosmic state of bondage:

“For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that[h] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.” (Romans 8:21-23)

Thankfully, God in His goodness and grace promises the creation of a new heaven and a new earth, wherein righteousness dwells:

“But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.” (2 Peter 3:13)

The truth is that a vice list of the workers of iniquity will be excluded from the new heaven and the earth, and this list includes those who partake of pharmakeia (ilicit drugs and the occult):

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.” And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He *said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. He who overcomes will inherit these things, and I will be his God and he will be My son. But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers [pharmakeia] and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:1)

We will examine marijuana as prohibited by God as sorcery or pharmakeia in Part 2 of this exposé.

The Way Out

In conclusion: marijuana is harmful to the body, soul, and mind. It attacks God’s glorious creation as it assaults the central nervous system, producing horrific dysfunction in the brain’s neurons. The results are paranoia, increased anxiety, memory loss, inability to learn and eventually permanent brain damage.

Marijuana usage not only reveals disobedience to His prohibitions under warnings against pharmakeia (Galatians 5:19-21; Revelation 9:20-21; 18:23; 21:8 and 22:14-15), but also breaks God’s repeated commandments to be “sober minded” as cannabis inebriation opens one’s heart and mind to oppression and possession by demonic forces (1 Peter 5:8-10).

Besides the many reasons given above, marijuana usage also breaks God’s many commands not to cause brothers to stumble (Luke 17:1-4; Romans 14:21; 1 Corinthians 8:13; 10:32). Since marijuana is a proven gateway drug to even more harmful ones, those promoting it are causing great harm to countless people.

If you don’t know your Creator, and have a drug problem, I would like to share with you something about the Person who delivered me, along with millions of other people, from drug addiction. His name is the Lord Jesus Christ. He not only created you, but as God in the flesh, He became a man to die on the cross to pay for your crimes against Him and humanity. He rose from the grave and conquered death. If you turn to Christ He promises to deliver you from the powers of Satan and darkness and bring you into His eternal kingdom (Colossians 1:11-13). He promises that if you come to Him and place your faith in Him, He will not cast you away, but will forgive you; give you eternal life and set you free from the penalty of sin, which includes death and eternal damnation:

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” (Luke 4:18)

“He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8)

“So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free … So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:31-32, 36)

We encourage you to cry out to the Lord in repentant faith for forgiveness now and you will be saved. “For everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

If you have turned to Jesus as your Lord and Savior we would like to welcome you into the eternal family of God. May the Lord richly bless you as you seek His face!

$571,000,000.00 Worldwide

If you want to know why there is a sequel coming out for Fifty Shades of Grey, look no further than the number above. That is the worldwide box office totals for the erotic novel-turned-film. While the film was ravaged by critics, even earning a Razzie (Golden Raspberry Award) for the year’s worst film of 2015, sex seems to sell when content no longer does. The latest installment, Fifty Shades Darker, is expected to make another huge splash at the box office over Valentine’s Day weekend. The trailer for the film has been viewed over 17,700,000 times on the film’s official YouTube Channel alone. It’s quite interesting to see such excitement for a film that some have called “erotica lite” and “an informercial for Sex Toys R Us”.

Just How Raunchy Is The Film?

The film, as Lily Harrison of E! Online puts it, “dodged the NC-17 rating, much like the first flick Fifty Shades of Grey” and received an R rating for “strong erotic sexual content, some graphic nudity and language.” (Source) Harvey Day of The Daily Mail says, “It’s one of the raunchiest Hollywood franchises in recent history.” (Source) Dakota Johnson, who stars as Anastasia Steele, said that the film will be even more “sexually heightened” than the first one. (Source) So how does she get through filming scenes with such a heightened level of sexuality? By getting drunk of course! Johnson admitted to having a “pregame ritual” in which she gets drunk before filming the movie’s sex scenes: “He does pushups and I just lay there and drink whiskey.” (Source)

It’s no surprise, from a Biblical perspective, that a person who is about to engage in such a filthy adaptation of this erotica novel would need to get drunk to help her make it through the scenes. The Bible warns that we should not get drunk and that it leads to debauchery (Ephesians 5:18). Much like Lot’s daughters who would use alcohol to get their father drunk so that they could commit grievous sexual sin, Dakota self-medicates with alcohol to help her get through her sinful acts. While Dakota was able to numb herself enough to help her act the gratuitous sex scenes, the same could not be said for her mother, actress Melanie Griffith. On the red carpet for the 2015 Oscars, Melanie could be seen visually uncomfortable as an interviewer asked if she has seen her daughter act in her biggest role yet. Griffith replied, “I don’t think I can. I think it would be strange.” The woman interviewing her tried to calm the obvious tension as her daughter became upset, explaining that Johnson was a very talented actress and telling her she should be proud of her, but Griffith replied, “She’s a really good actress … I don’t need to see that to know how good she is”. At this point, Johnson can be seen visibly upset with her mother, and the interview went viral because of the candid display of embarrassment. (Source)

But that isn’t the only relative who isn’t all that thrilled with watching their loved one be displayed for all to see. Jamie Dornan, who plays Christian Grey, said of his wife, “She hasn’t seen the film and I don’t think she will, to be honest.” One could imagine how difficult it would be for the wife and mother of their two children to make it through such scenes without feeling repulsed and even betrayed.

A Different Kind of “Love”

While the film will come ridden with sadomasochism and public displays of sexual gratuity, the executives at Universal have reportedly given the actors a gag-order when it comes to how they talk in interviews and on their own personal Twitter feeds. According to Oscar-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden, who plays Christian Grey’s mother in the film, she was reprimanded for tweeting about “sex toys”. This is because the directors would like you to believe that the expressions made in the film are those of true love. They do not want you to see the film for the smut it truly is, but would prefer you believe this is the way love is truly meant to be. As Hollywood has continued its push at making fornication, adultery, homosexuality and polyamory a normative societal expression, the Fifty Shades series has attempted to bring sadomasochism into the fray. If you do not believe that the entertainment industry has had an effect on how young people view relationships, you are simply not paying attention. In 1991, Madonna made the following statement on how to desensitize people into accepting homosexuality as normative:

“They digest it on a lot of different levels. Some people will see it and be disgusted by it, but maybe they’ll be unconsciously aroused by it. If people keep seeing it and seeing it, eventually it’s not going to be such a strange thing.” (The Advocate, May 7, 1991, pg. 49)

This is not an accident, this is by design. And don’t think that this isn’t having an affect on people. This lax view of sex, and the idea of your own pleasure and desires trumping that of God’s will, is not missed in our society. In fact, a recent study done on sex and the millennial shows us just how far we have fallen in our view of the marriage bed.

Sex Before Marria…THE FIRST DATE!

According to the annual Singles in America Survey, 34% of singles say that they have had sex before a first date. You read that right…BEFORE THE FIRST DATE! Helen Fisher, Phd., a biological anthropologist and chief scientific adviser for said, “We have a real misunderstanding of Millennials, I think they are very career oriented, so sex before the first date could be a sex interview, where they want to know if they want to spend time with this person.” (Source)

So-called “Sex-Therapist”, Kimberly Resnick Anderson, believes that the dynamic has changed when it comes to our viewpoint on sex.

“We used to think of sex as you crossed the line now you are in an intimate zone, but now sex is almost a given and it’s not the intimate part.” (Ibid.)

Good Christian SexBut Christians couldn’t be using this line of thinking, right? Actually, Bromleigh McCleneghan, author of Good Christian Sex: Why Chastity isn’t the Only Option – And Other Things the Bible Says About Sex (talk about calling good evil and evil good), a married mother of three and an associate “pastor” says that single Christians can have sex as long as it’s “mutually pleasurable and affirming”. (Bromleigh McCleneghan, Good Christian Sex: Why Chastity isn’t the Only Option – And Other Things the Bible Says About Sex, HarperOne, 2016, p. 103)

In her Op-Ed in The Washington Post concerning her book she says, “Part of figuring out how to live into the creative life of God is figuring out how to live into being yourself, and choosing the spiritual practices and disciplines that support your own discipleship. One of the most unfair things the Christian tradition has foisted on singles is the expectation that they would remain celibate – that is, refraining from sexual relationships.” (Bromleigh McCleneghan, The Washington Post, August 22, 2016)

One must ask McCleneghan, under who’s discipleship do you follow whatever rules you want to follow? The Jesus of the Bible asked His followers, “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord’ and do not the things I say?” (Luke 6:46), and that those who love Him obey His commandments (John 15:10). I imagine that the Lord’s brother, Jude, would have this to say to someone telling Christians to engage in sexual sin, “For certain persons have crept in unnoticed, those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.” She is giving them poison and telling them it is grape juice!

These are the very stumbling blocks that Peter wrote about in 2 Peter 2 when dealing with false prophets.

“These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved. For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error, promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved.” (2 Peter 2:17)

Rather than the call to “Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body” (1 Corinthians 6:18), Bromleigh McCleneghan calls for singles to give in to their desires. These desires that wage war against the soul will lead into nothing but despair. When you fashion a god that is different from the one we find in Scripture, this is called the sin of idolatry. A god that does not care whether or not you follow His commands or choose for yourself which commands you wish to follow is not real.

Interestingly enough, as our 2015 article regarding Fifty Shades of Grey pointed out, the number of women who have begun frequenting pornography websites after reading the book series has increased significantly. It was one researcher’s view that the book would only aide in this trend:

“…researcher Diana Parry interviewed 28 women ranging in age from 20 to 50+ who had read Fifty Shades of Grey, and asked about their pornography habits. She discovered that women in the group increased their consumption of sexually explicit content after reading the book. “So many of the women [we interviewed] were hopping in for the first time to pornography or sexually explicit material that was written by women for women,” Parry told Salon in an interview.

If the numbers given out recently during the Women’s March are any indicator, it is certainly having an effect. According to the most visited pornography website in the world, the normal amount of visitors on their site dropped significantly during the march. It was estimated that they lost over 2,000,000 visitors that would normally be tuning in while the march was taking place. The majority of those missing visitors, coming from the female side of the spectrum.” (Source)

If you are a woman or a man who is thinking about watching these films or reading these books, we implore you to flee from this sensual desire. If you are someone who has already given into this temptation, we hope that you will prayerfully repent and help to warn others of its sinfulness. If you are having trouble with this or other forms of pornography, I encourage you to speak with a trusted brother or sister in the Lord and pray about how you can be held accountable. The following excerpt is taken from an earlier article titled “Pornography Through The Lenses of Scripture”:

We need to recognize the spiritual warfare that is going on. One of the chief dangers when it comes to men fighting against this sin is not knowing who the enemy is! The Bible gives us an exact guideline on not only who he is, but how to defeat him! The Bible says that we aren’t fighting merely against a flesh and blood battle. It is not only our fleshly desires that are tempting us, but a cunning enemy who will bring about temptation in our life. This is a battle that is won not only on our knees but with our comrades. We have fellow soldiers in the army of God who need to come together and fight this battle with us.

In Exodus chapter 17 we read of the battle of Amalek and Israel. Not only did Moses raise his arms to Heaven, but his brothers came to his aid when he didn’t have the strength to hold them up himself:

“So it came about when Moses held his hand up, that Israel prevailed, and when he let his hand down, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands were heavy. Then they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other. Thus his hands were steady until the sun set. So Joshua overwhelmed Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.” (Exodus 17:11-13)

This is where the Body of Christ needs to step up. We need to hold our brothers arms up when they are lacking in strength. We need to make sure we hold each other accountable. If you are struggling with sin, find a brother or sister that you can confide in and ask him/her to pray for you.

As God puts it:
“Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of the righteous man can accomplish much.” (James 5:16)

Remember, don’t let Google know more about your struggles than a brother or sister in the Lord. Pray without ceasing. Do not simply pray THAT God will get you through the struggle, pray UNTIL God gets you through the struggle and lean on your brothers or sisters. Carry one another’s burdens and fulfill the law of Christ (Galatians 6:1-2)!

In the aftermath of the December 2, 2016 tragedy that destroyed the “Ghost Ship” club in Oakland, CA, claiming at least 36 victims, sad truths have now emerged that few people are aware of. The heartbreaking building fire, which was one of the deadliest in U.S. history, took place during what was to be an all night rave party. Raves typically employ hypnotic and psychedelic House music, hallucinogens like Ecstasy, and lots of alcohol.

The once abandoned and dilapidated warehouse (which was in serious violation of a number of safety codes, including zero fire alarms and ceiling sprinklers) was a death trap waiting to spring on its victims.

Derick Ion Almena

Derick Ion Almena

Many former employees claimed that Derick Ion Almena, the owner of the Ghost Ship and who ran the occult art commune, “laughed off” warnings from police and fire officials about the fire hazard the building posed. Oakland’s Planning and Building Department reportedly stated that Almena also failed to get the special permit necessary for the deadly December 2, 2016 rave.

After at least 36 people died in the fire, Almena further angered many more people after taking to Facebook and lamenting over his material losses while failing to mention any concern for the fire’s victims. Some tweeted their moral outrage with statements like “I hope you get charged with manslaughter” and “There is a special place in Hell for people like you!!!!!!!”

Ghost Ship paraphernaliaHowever, after the death tally rose and the smoke cleared, there are even more troubling revelations about the occult underbelly of the rave scene. The makeshift warehouse club, appropriately called the “Ghost Ship,” was apparently a stronghold of occult activity and paraphernalia. Pictured in this article are depictions of skulls as well as Hindu idols of Shiva and other demon gods. God’s Word declares:

“Rather, the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God. And I do not want you to be participants with demons” (1 Corinthians 10:20, Deuteronomy 32:17, Psalm 106:37).

Shiva, Hindu god of destruction

Shiva, the Hindu god of destruction, is apparently the most prominent false god that occupied the occult art commune, as can be seen in the photos. I find this interesting, as Shiva is at times depicted in art with fire, symbolizing his fiery destruction of the world, as can be seen to the right. Those who worship Shiva and practice Kashmir Shavism often use fire in their Tantric (sex) Yoga rituals, which is patterned after the Hindu Vedic ritual fires. (cf. David Frawley, Gods, Sages and Kings: Vedic Secrets of Ancient Civilization, Lotus Press, 1991)

Fire DanceI also found it interesting that fire dances were done in this death trap, though this is not to say that this was the cause of the deadly fire (the cause is still unknown). Such rituals however, would be incredibly irresponsible and even deadly in such a derelict building as the “Ghost Ship.”

Another sad truth is that the fiery blaze broke out while the headlining band, Golden Donna, was preparing to perform. Golden Donna is the stage name for the Wisconsin based DJ and producer, Joel Shanahan. Some of you who have studied the occult have probably already thought, “That name seems a bit suspicious.” Indeed it is. Golden Donna sounds a lot like the occult group that Satanist Aleister Crowley once belonged to, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (or the Golden Dawn for short).

Joel Shanahan

Joel Shanahan

When looking for interviews with Golden Donna’s founder, it didn’t take long to confirm that Joel Shanahan had Satanist Aleister Crowley and his old occult group the Golden Dawn in mind when naming his group “Golden Donna.” When Shanahan was asked by Andrew Winistorfer of Vinyl in Alpabetical, “So, tell me about the name…” Shanahan admitted that one of his sources behind the inspiration of his naming of “Golden Donna” was Satanist Aleister Crowley and the Golden Dawn. Shanahan admitted:

“Golden Dawn: The organization that Aleister Crowley was involved with. And then Donna Summer. Just smooshed together. … I like how the name sounds. It’s two subjects I’m interested in.” (Source)

Eagles of Satan and the Terrorist Attack in Paris

While very few people are aware that the club that burned to the ground in Oakland, CA was to be headlined that frightful night by a band glorifying Satanist Aleister Crowley, many are also unaware that the nearly 90 people killed in the terrorist attack at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris, France were also being immersed in satanically-inspired music.

Eagles of Death Metal

Eagles of Death Metal

The tragic irony is that the terrorist attack in Paris ensued when the band Eagles of Death Metal were performing their satanic worship song, “Kiss the Devil”. The song’s lyrics reveal straight up praise and worship for Satan. In the song’s lyrics, written by the band’s founder, Jesse Hughes, we read:

Who’ll love the devil?…
Who’ll sing his song?…
I’ll love the devil!…
I’ll sing his song!…
I will love the devil and his song!…
Who will kiss the devil on his tongue?…
I’ll love the devil!…
I’ll kiss his tongue!…
Who’ll love the devil?…
Who’ll sing his song?…
I will love the devil and sing his song!

Jesse Hughes

Jesse Hughes, Eagles of Death Metal

Just as they began to praise Satan to this song, they got their chance to “kiss the devil” when he came in the face of militant Islam, which is defined biblically as the spirit of Antichrist (1 John 2:22; 4:1-4).

The terrorists not only gunned down nearly 90 people with automatic weapons, but they used explosive vests with the incredibly volatile TATP (Triacetone Triperoxide), which is also known as the “Mother of Satan”.

While the Eagles of Death Metal band members temporarily escaped death, many of their fans tragically perished in a hail of bullets.

Bataclan Theatre attack

Bataclan Theatre terrorist attack in Paris

The truth is that about 150,000 people die every day and most are unaware of the moment they will draw their last breath. It is important that we make sure that we are right with God before that day comes upon us like a snare. While the Eagles of Death Metal promote Satanism and death in their music, God’s Word warns us to choose life:

“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

“For he who finds me finds life. And obtains favor from the LORD. “But he who sins against me injures himself; all those who hate me love death.” (Proverbs 8:35-36)

May those of us who still have an opportunity to turn to Christ for salvation before it’s too late, turn while there is yet time. The good news is that Jesus died for our sins on the cross and conquered death and the grave through His glorious resurrection. He promised that those who repent and place their faith in Him will pass from death to life and not come into condemnation (John 5:24). Choose life, choose Christ! Jesus promised:

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

May the Lord richly bless you as you seek His Face and live for His glory!

Joe Schimmel Falsely Accused Of Racism For Taking Theological Stance Concerning The Shack (Official Response)

Good Fight Ministries, Blessed Hope Chapel and Pastor Joe Schimmel want to make something very clear: we hate the sin of racism and bigotry. This is nothing new at our ministry, and something that Pastor Schimmel has taken a stand against since the inception of his ministry. In fact, when the KKK came to visit California in the aftermath of the Rodney King police brutality verdict (April 1992), Schimmel and his congregation took a stand against their visit, even helping an African American member of his church write a speech that she would give in protest of their arrival. The speech denounced the KKK, proclaimed that all humans are made equally in God’s image and that Jesus died for everyone, regardless of skin color.

The Scriptures make it abundantly clear that every human being has innate value that cannot be taken away. It isn’t something that society determines, it is something that God determined when He created every human being as an image bearer of Himself. The Bible even tells us that each and every one of us has been born in a particular place for one reason, “that we may grope for Him and find Him” (Acts 17:26-27). In other words, according to Scripture, there is only one race, human: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise” (Galatians 3:28-29).

While this has been a clear position for this ministry since its inception, some recent comments made by Pastor Schimmel regarding the novel-turned-film, The Shack, has led a columnist by the name of Sergio Mims to label Pastor Schimmel a “racist”. The article, found on, asks, “is he [Pastor Schimmel] a sexist (as well as a racist)? Or has he been emboldened by Trump?” (Source)

So what did Pastor Schimmel write to make Mims jump to this conclusion? According to Mims, Schimmel called a character in The Shack a “fat black woman (Mim’s words, not Joe Schimmel’s).” (Ibid.)

The first problem? Joe Schimmel never used the term “fat black woman” (so no, those are not Schimmel’s words, but those of the author of this fallacious article). Schimmel simply wrote about the character as the author of the book describes her. (You can read Schimmel’s entire quote here: The Shack is Coming to the Big Screen)

The aforementioned article by Mims is not only false, but does not even attempt to understand the point that Pastor Schimmel is trying to make, even going so far as to provide its own narrative as to what he said.

Newsflash for Mr. Mims: The difficulty Pastor Schimmel has with the book The Shack (and now the film adaptation) by William P. Young is that of theology, not racial film-casting! To act as if he brought up race as a factor for his contention is grossly inaccurate and is not worthy of being called journalism. The problem, which Schimmel made clear in his statement, is that the character, as described in the book itself, is nothing like our Father in heaven. Jesus told us “God is Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). The caricature that Young uses to depict God is nothing like what is revealed in Scripture and, more importantly, does away with the idea that God is a thrice-holy, righteous judge. This is the issue, not that Schimmel doesn’t want leading roles for black female actors. He doesn’t want God to be made into something that He is not!

While the article does point out that Pastor Schimmel was “upset” that the book pushes Universalism in terms of salvation, it merely made this a side issue rather than his entire case. While this theological position may seem irrelevant to the obvious agenda Mims’ article was attempting to push, the fact remains that if this book/movie leads a person into a false hope – which says they can live however they like, free of Christ, and still inherit the Kingdom of God – it is merely cherry flavored cyanide for the soul. What kind of a pastor would Schimmel be if he did not stand up against such an atrocious lie that is found nowhere in Scripture?

UPDATE (12/23/16): After being contacted by Heather Clark of Christian News Network (from which Shadow and Act based their unfounded “journalism”), Shadow and Act has revised their original article dated December 21, 2016 to more accurately reflect what the Christian News Network article reported. To be clear, Schimmel has never made (nor ever would make) any disparaging remarks about race. This is (and has always been) a theological discussion.

Just a smidgen of research would reveal that Pastor Schimmel has spoken out explicitly against racism and has stated in multiple sermons that Jesus Himself was not a blonde-haired, blue-eyed white man, but most likely a man of darker skin color with dark semitic features. In fact, he has even discussed the ridiculousness of Hollywood casting white actors to play roles from the east from some 4,000 years ago.

For example, following is an excerpt from Pastor Schimmel’s critique of the film “Exodus” by Ridley Scott in which he bemoans the idea of the filmmakers using actors of color to play lesser roles. Joe was actually lambasted because of his stance against racism in his article, “God’s Exodus vs. Ridley Scott’s Exodus”:

[Begin Excerpt]

When Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses for marrying a Cushite/Ethiopian woman, apparently because of her skin color, God was not pleased:

“Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. And they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it. Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth. And suddenly the Lord said to Moses and to Aaron and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tent of meeting.” And the three of them came out. And the Lord came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent and called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward. And he said, “Hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream. Not so with my servant Moses. He is faithful in all my house. With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and he departed” (Numbers 12:10-15).

From Every People and NationIn Daniel Hays’ book, From Every People and Nation: A Biblical Theology of Race, he writes that Cush:

“is used regularly to refer to the area south of Egypt, and above the cataracts on the Nile, where a Black African civilization flourished for over two thousand years. Thus it is quite clear that Moses marries a Black African woman.” –J. Daniel Hays, From Every People and Nation: A Biblical Theology of Race (InterVarsity Press, 2003), p. 71

God was so displeased with Miriam’s racism and opposition to Moses that he struck her with leprosy to apparently teach her a lesson:

“When the cloud removed from over the tent, behold, Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous. And Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, do not punish us because we have done foolishly and have sinned. Let her not be as one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes out of his mother’s womb.” And Moses cried to the Lord, “O God, please heal her—please.” But the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut outside the camp seven days, and after that she may be brought in again.” So Miriam was shut outside the camp seven days, and the people did not set out on the march till Miriam was brought in again” (Numbers 12:10-15).

What a powerful object lesson! Evidently, God was saying to Miriam that if you think lighter skin is superior and somehow makes you better than others, then here, have some pure white skin in the form of leprosy. The truth is that red, brown, yellow, black or white, we are all the same human race, created in the image of God and souls for whom Christ died (Hebrews 2:9)! God looks on the heart, not on our outward appearance (1 Samuel 16:7)!

Ironically, the great majority of white actors in the new Exodus movie play leaders among the Egyptians, whereas darker skinned actors depict the lower class Egyptians, including slaves and criminals. This has led to various boycotts of the movie over race, including this one #BoycottExodusmovie.

21st Century Fox CEO, Rupert Murdoch, claimed in an interview that the bottom line in the perceived racism regarding casting came down to money, “I can’t mount a film of this budget, where I have to rely on tax rebates in Spain, and say that my lead actor is Mohammad so-and-so from such-and-such…I’m just not going to get it financed. So the question doesn’t even come up.” (Source)

Murdoch also tweeted: “Since when are Egyptians not white? All I know are,” despite the fact that ancient Egyptians portrayed themselves in ancient artwork as predominantly darker skinned!

The new Exodus movie gets God, Moses, miracles and even race wrong! This is unfortunate in light of all that is going on in the U.S. with race baiting, race relations and the country’s deep need for the creator God! Jesus warned that in the last days the love of many would grow cold; lawlessness would increase and “nation would rise against nation” (Matthew 24:4-13). The Greek word that Jesus used for nation is “ethnos” and is the word from which we derive ethnic or ethnicity! It seems quite clear that the media, rather than promoting healing, is instigating more unrest between various ethnicities. The new Exodus movie has only proven to pour more gas on the fire when it comes to racism. Thankfully, there is an answer to the serious problems that ail the U.S. and the world at large. This answer was given by Benjamin Watson, an African American NFL tight end who currently plays for the New Orleans Saints and won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots. His entire Facebook post is worth reading, but his ending was most important:

“I’M HOPEFUL, because I know that while we still have race issues in America, we enjoy a much different normal than those of our parents and grandparents. I see it in my personal relationships with teammates, friends and mentors. And it’s a beautiful thing.

I’M ENCOURAGED, because ultimately the problem is not a SKIN problem, it is a SIN problem. SIN is the reason we rebel against authority. SIN is the reason we abuse our authority. SIN is the reason we are racist, prejudiced and lie to cover for our own. SIN is the reason we riot, loot and burn. BUT I’M ENCOURAGED because God has provided a solution for sin through the his son Jesus and with it, a transformed heart and mind. One that’s capable of looking past the outward and seeing what’s truly important in every human being. The cure for the Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice and Eric Garner tragedies is not education or exposure. It’s the Gospel. So, finally, I’M ENCOURAGED because the Gospel gives mankind hope.”

While Simi Valley is not the most racially diverse city in the country, Blessed Hope Chapel (where Joe Schimmel is senior pastor) has been quite racially diverse – as a congregation as well as those in leadership – since its inception some 25+ years ago. The sin of racism and bigotry have been preached against for many years because the men and women at the church believe what the Bible says and receive messages which are faithful to its teaching. The Bible tells us, “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him” (1 John 3:15). That means that those who hate someone because of their race will hear the words “I never knew you” come out of the mouth of Jesus on judgment day (Matthew 7:21-23). This should cause the racist to tremble before God and repent! We should pray for those who have been affected by racism and bigotry. Furthermore, we should not stand idly by when our brethren around the world are being mistreated because of it. May the Lord bring us to our knees in intercession for our brethren. May He enable us to see the damages that have been caused by those who have sinned against them and those who have stood by and done nothing. As the abolitionist, William Wilberforce, once said in conclusion to his arguments made to parliament against slave trade, “You may choose to look away, but you can never say you did not know.” Let us not look the other way, but stare this sin in the eyes and rebuke it in the name of Jesus!

If William P. Young’s upcoming movie The Shack is anything like his best selling book by the same name (and the trailer indicates it will be), I will be warning others not to waste their hard earned cash seeing it. On one hand, I understand Young’s desire to divest God’s image of monstrous characteristics that are as unbiblical as they are unbecoming of His Divine nature of perfect love (1 John 4:8, 16); on the other hand, Young is equally guilty of divesting God of characteristics that are essential to His Holy and Divine Majesty. Young’s pretentious caricature of God as a heavy set, cushy, non-judgmental, African American woman called “Papa” (who resembles the New Agey Oprah Winfrey far more than the one true God revealed through the Lord Jesus Christ – Hebrews 1:1-3), and his depiction of the Holy Spirit as a frail Asian woman with the Hindu name, Sarayu, lends itself to a dangerous and false image of God and idolatry.

Young’s emasculated image of a God who fails both to punish unrepentant sinners and to bare the wrath of the Father on our behalf on Calvary’s cross, simultaneously diminishes both God’s pure justice and His amazing grace. In interviews, Young not only denies that the Father pours out holy and just wrath on wicked human beings, but also denies that Jesus bore the wrath of God on our behalf through His substitutionary atonement on the cross. Tragically, these heresies are reflected in the aberrant fictional theology presented in The Shack. These are not mere trivial matters but strike at the very heart of God’s character and the gospel that saves our eternal souls. The apostle Paul declared that Jesus’ death for our sins and His subsequent resurrection is in fact the gospel (1 Cor. 15:1-4). He also solemnly warned that false gospels damn the soul and are therefore cursed by God (2 Cor. 11:2-4; 13-15; Galatians 1:6-9).

When Moses ascended Mount Sinai to get the 10 commandments and God’s people saw that He had delayed His coming, they created an idol, which they called by God’s name and worshiped (Exodus 32). Jesus warned of a time, after His ascension, that some of His servants would conclude that He was delaying His coming and would also live wicked lives (Luke 12:45). Sadly, as we await our Lord’s return from heaven, many are guilty of fashioning images of God that they find more accommodating to their desires and chosen lifestyles and calling these gods “Yahweh.”

Before long the Lord will return in glory at His second coming with far more vengeance than Moses did upon his descent from Mount Sinai (2Peter 3:9-14). May the Lord find us worshipping Him as the one true God in Spirit and truth in accordance with the true gospel, and not on the basis of cheap images we have read about in a best seller or have seen in a popular movie!
